The Jones Family and Kerry Cottage!
Hello and thank you for taking the time to get to know me. My name is Nicolette Jones, and I am a solo owner and joint operator of the 520-acre property 'Kerry Cottage'.
I have previous extensive experience working on a variety of cattle and sheep properties in South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland, and also have worked in a variety of different feedlots (cattle) and a piggery throughout Queensland and New South Wales.
Kerry Cottage originally started out at a partnered operation back in 2013 when it was purchased, however due to life changes became a solo business adventure in 2021.
The farm was in operation with improvements progressing slowly from early 2013 right up until 2019, when the drought became too mentally and financially straining on the business and persons, and the livestock were offloaded and the gate locked, and the property abandoned for 4 years.
It wasn't until around September of 2024 that I returned to the property on a full-time basis with my supportive partner and since then improvements have restarted.
Since returning the property we have started fixing up things that have become in disarray from the abandonment such as fencing and the cottage itself. The cottage has had a much-needed revamp with a new roof installed, the structure restumped and installation of a wood fire! No more freezing winters for us! Part of the front deck has been enclosed and converted into a WIR and ensuite for the bedroom!
A new chicken run has been built and after a few setbacks (both in building and from predations from a naughty little quoll), it is a safe and secure chicken palace. A green house has been built, and the future vegetable patch is underway! We are even looking at building a rabbit run at the bottom of the veggie patch to increase variety of produce from the property.
An orchard has been established behind the house, with a variety of fruiting and herb trees such as apples, oranges, lemons, bay and more, with more to be added! Blueberry, raspberry, boysenberry shrubs have been established in the main house yard, and we are eagerly awaiting the first crop!
'Kerry Cottage' is located approximately 30 km North-West of Ashford NSW and 30 km South-West of Texas QLD. It is relatively flat, open country, with about 100 acres of bush. We are blessed with 6 dams, a seasonal creek and a bore that was sunk in 2022 in hopes to help secure water on farm!
We are currently in the process of re-establishing the property fully before we start offering products to customers. It is a slow and steady process but each week we are edging closer to these goals.
